I love going on holiday and visiting new places. My hobbies include swimming, reading, going to the theatre or the local comedy club and having a laugh. I'm also a little bit of a techie.

TREASURER - SARAH EVANS

TREASURER - SARAH EVANS

Hi I’m Sarah.  I’m originally for Warrington and have been living in Saddleworth for over 25 years. My career was spent in Human Resources, latterly working for a small local charity.  I’ve also served on the board of a Moss Side housing provider and have represented customers as a member of the Consumer Council for Water.

I’m a member of our WI book group, walking group through which I’ve met warm, friendly supportive and likeminded women.

I enjoy spending free time with family and friends, practising yoga, supporting a charity for retired greyhounds and getting outdoors in nature as much as possible.

VICE PRESIDENT - JO BARTON

Jo has lived in Saddleworth for 33 years moving first to Greenfield then to Uppermill where she has lived with her husband for 22 years.

She has a stepdaughter and family who are Swedish and is a frequent traveller there as well as to Majorca where she met her husband 30 years ago when he was living there. They still have a home on the east coast.

Interests are walking, skiing, gardening, reading, (member of the WI book club) and travelling to other countries.

Jo is a self-employed business consultant and has clients in the UK and Ireland.

COMMITTEE MEMBER -

ELEANOR NUTTALL

Hi, I'm Eleanor. I joined Dovestone WI in June 2019.

I was born and bred in Saddleworth and I now live in Mossley.

I love to socialise and can often be found with a pint of real ale chatting away to folk.

I enjoy lots of crafting and will turn my hand to anything: from sewing, pyrography, pottery and carving, as well as making my own jewellery from recycled beads.

COMMITTEE MEMBER  & CAMPAIGN LEAD -
LISA CARTER

I moved to Uppermill when I got my first job teaching English at Saddleworth School in 1992. Since then I’ve taught in local primary schools and a secondary school in Stockport and am currently working part-time as a cover teacher in Milnrow (at my old secondary school) and lecturing at Bolton University. I live in Grasscroft with my family and crazy dog. I joined the WI in 2019 when I stopped full-time work, and also started volunteering with a local Guide group which is great fun. It’s so good having time to read, write, garden, travel, go out with family and friends … all possible now the piles of marking have disappeared!

I love the WI – it’s full of such kind and funny women and I’ve really enjoyed becoming a regular with the walking group and the crafters.

COMMITTEE MEMBER -

BARBARA KINSON

Prior to moving to Saddleworth 26 years ago I lived in Salford. Married with a adult daughter and son and two grandsons, I have previously worked for the NHS and Salford Education Youth Service as a youth leader. In the past my interests have included dinghy and motor sailing and caravanning.  l enjoy reading, walking, gardening and travel. My more adventurous travels have included accompanying my husband to Sierra Leone  West Africa as the country emerged from a bloody civil war, and an emergency evacuation as fighting once again shattered the peace.

COMMITTEE MEMBER -

CHANTELLE TUNNICLIFFE

I moved to Dukinfield in 1991 after spending 6 years in Germany. I have three grown up children and nine grandchildren. I joined the WI in 2023 and am a member of our WI book club. I love the diversity of books chosen by our members and reading books I would have passed by. I share an allotment with my sister and a long time friend which keeps us busy. I also enjoy crafts, theatre  and travelling.

COMMITTEE MEMBER -

ANN BURKE

I have lived in Ashton-under-Lyne all my life and am married with 3 grown up children. I have previously worked for the NHS in Cardio-Respiratory and then as a Training Officer in Human Resources. I’ve volunteered for both the NHS and Education followed by working as a Teaching Assistant and completing a course in Beauty Therapy. I now enjoy working as an Exam Invigilator and my hobby is weight training at the gym. I joined Dovestone WI in August 2021 after following them on Facebook during COVID. I was inspired to join by the supportive work they did for the community during this time. They are a very special group of ladies who all bring special attributes and fun to the group. Dovestone WI are much more than the traditional reputation of baking, crafting and jam making (of which I lack many skills)! They also has a strong emphasis on the modern woman and improving the environment.

COMMITTEE MEMBER -

KAREN WELTON

I was brought up in Mossley. After university, I lived in London and South Wales, practising as a solicitor in the pharmaceutical and telecommunications industries and private practice. My children were raised in Wales, I have a daughter, a son and one grandson.

In 2021 I returned to the northwest and now live in Greenfield. I joined the WI to meet people, have made many friends and particularly enjoy the walks and the book club. I am always keen to discover new walks and be introduced to new authors.

I am currently working as a science technician in a secondary school after having invigilated there during one exam session. Quite the change in career!

I love travelling and have been involved in volunteering projects in Thailand, Cambodia, Costa Rica and Uganda.
